Police say a man accused of killing an elderly Bluefield man and wounding the victim's wife apparently committed suicide in his cell.
State police Cpl. A.P. Christian tells media outlets that Don Adams, 54, of Bluefield hanged himself with his shoestrings.
Christian says a Bluefield police officer found Adams unresponsive in an isolated cell at the city jail Wednesday afternoon. He says Adams had been cooperative and gave no indication that he was a suicide risk.
Adams was awaiting transfer to the Southern Regional Jail following his arrest Tuesday. He was charged with fatally shooting John Watson and wounding the victim's wife, Monika Watson, during a robbery.
