A St. Albans man is behind bars after an early morning police chase ended in a crash.
Police say officers saw 18-year-old Trellae Nellum Toney run a stop light at the intersection of US 60 and B Street shortly before 3am Saturday. When they tried to pull him over, Toney took off on 3rd Street and then to Pennsylvania Avenue. Officers say Toney then lost control on Drumheller Road, hit a utility pole on an embankment and then flipped the car back on the roadway.
Toney and his female passenger were not hurt.
Officers say Toney tried to say his passenger was driving, but police say they saw him run the stop light. She owned the car, but was not charged.
Toney is charged with fleeing in a vehicle, failure to yield several traffic signals, driving without a license and reckless driving. He is currently in the South Central Regional Jail.
