A Charleston police officer has been suspended and is the subject of an investigation.
Eyewitness News has learned Sgt. Chris Thompson was placed on paid administrative leave Aug. 20. He has been on the capital city police force for 18 years.
Thompson once held the rank of lieutenant, but was demoted to sergeant.
Charleston Police Chief Brent Webster declined to talk about that personnel move or discuss why Thompson is now the subject of a probe. Webster did confirm an investigation by the department's professional standards unit is under way.
