A public forum to educate the public on Marcellus Shale will take place in the capital city later this week.
The Mountaineer Energy Forum and the American Petroleum Institute are presenting the event, set for Thursday at Mary C. Snow West Side Elementary School on Florida Street in Charleston.
The goal of the forum is to educate people on Marcellus Shale and opportunities within the gas and oil industry.
The Mountaineer Energy Forum targets students in middle and high schools, parents and educators. Representatives with Bridgemont and Kanawha Valley Community and Technical Colleges, Job Corps and Kanawha County Schools will be on hand to discuss job training in addition educational opportunities.
The event will focus on topics including how one gets a job in the industry, what jobs are available now and expected to be in the future, and what jobs will be available in the Mountain State.
The Rev. Matthew Watts will serve as moderator, while Charleston Mayor Danny Jones and first lady Joanne Tomblin are two of many slated to speak.
The reception kicks off at 5 p.m. with a meet and greet along with refreshments, entrainment and a network session. The event is expected to run until 7:30 p.m.
There is no cost to attend and the public is invited to attend.
