Some local children received a history lesson in some very special music Monday morning.
Mick Souter introduced children at the Mountaineer Montessori School in Charleston to the music of Woody Guthrie, who wrote and improvised more than 1,000 classic children’s songs and ballads from his experience during the Dust Bowl era.
This year would have been Guthrie’s 100th birthday.
Souter shared his “Road and Rails of Woody Guthrie” show with the kids. A native of Elkins, Souter travels the Mountain State as The Bard of Education.
Monday afternoon, the children were scheduled to participate in music workshops alongside Souter.
