Police Officer Shot While Responding To Neighborhood Dispute

Gallipolis , Gallia County , Ohio
A Gallipolis, Ohio, police officer was wounded in a shooting that occurred after the suspect had become embroiled in a dispute with a neighbor.
Police officer Jamie Bartels was wounded in the incident that occurred at an apartment complex off McCormick Road in Gallipolis Township, according to a news release from the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office.
Cole Creighton Miller, 28, of Gallia County is being held on felonious assault charges, but those are expected to be upgraded after the Gallia County Prosecutor’s Office reviews the case, the release said.
The Gallia County 911 Center received a call about midnight Monday concerning a neighbor who had become agitated and confronted the caller with a gun and shot the car that belonged to the caller.
Deputies were at a meth lab-related incident on the south end of the county at the time of the incident and asked 911 to contact the Gallipolis Police Department and have officers from there respond until deputies could get there.
When they arrived at the scene, Gallipolis officers were fired at by the suspect and Bartels was wounded in the upper torso, the release said. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene. Bartels is in good condition at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Bartels was taken to a Huntington area hospital for surgery. He was listed in good condition following surgery. Police said the officer will have to undergo physical therapy, but he is expected to be OK.
