A group of hospitals in West Virginia and Ohio has been selected as top performers on key quality measures in a national report.
In the annual study, Improving America’s Hospitals: the Joint Commission’s Annual Report on Quality and Safety 2012, West Virginia hospitals making the list received top marks in the following areas of care:
-- Fairmont General, heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.
-- VA Medical Center, Huntington, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.
-- Jackson General, Ripley, pneumonia and surgical care.
-- Stonewall Jackson Memorial, Weston, pneumonia and surgical care.
In Ohio, the following hospital in the Eyewitness News viewing area received these top marks:
-- Southern Ohio Medical Center, Portsmouth, heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.
Across the nation, the Joint Commission recognized 620 hospitals as top performers. The designation is based on hospitals’ performance during 2011 across 45 accountability measures.
