The inaugural meeting of the West Virginia Blue Ribbon Commission of Highways took place Friday morning.
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin met with the nearly thirty members of the commission at the state Capitol.
The group is tasked with studying the condition and needs of the state's transportation system and developing a long-term strategic plan of action. The plan will include funding options for the maintenance, construction, and expansion of the state's roadway system.
Paul Mattox, the Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Transportation says the cost of maintaining West Virginia's highways is ever increasing and it's time to look at how it can be best enhanced.
