A local high school and community will honor their former teacher and coach at Friday's home opener.
Capital High School Principal Clinton Giles said every Capital home football opener from this year on will be designated as "The Jack D. Woolwine Junior Memorial Football Game."
Woolwine served as head coach of the Cougars for nine seasons – from 2001 to 2009 and six of his teams made it to the state payoffs.
On Friday evening, a check will be presented to the Charleston Area Medical Foundation for research and care of those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Woolwine passed away this summer after a courageous battle with the disease.
A memorial scholarship also has been set up in his honor and will be awarded to a senior member of the football team later this year.
Capital plays Princeton at University of Charleston Stadium Friday evening.
