The name of the woman hit by a car and killed in Kanawha County Wednesday evening has been released. Amanda N. Bess, 31, of Charleston was hit by a hearse traveling along Route 60 about 9 p.m., Capt. B.C. Robbins of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office said. A pedestrian struck by a hearse on U.S. Route 60 in Jefferson has died, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office said. The name of the woman, who was in her 30s, has not been released, pending notification of family. The accident happened about 9 p.m. Wednesday in the 5900 block of MacCorkle Avenue, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. The woman was transported to Thomas Hospital, where she died from her injuries. A hearse was traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 60 when the vehicle struck the woman in the travel lane, the sheriff’s office said. The sheriff’s office said the vehicle was operated by Michael Jones, 45, of South Charleston. Kanawha County Sheriff’s Capt. J.S. Bailes said a reconstruction unit is investigating the crash, but his initial report indicated that Jones was properly operating the vehicle. Bailes said a witness told him the woman hit appeared to be impaired. No citations have been issued. A woman has been hit while walking along Route 60. It happened around 9 pm near the Rustic Motel in Jefferson. Kanawha County deputies say the driver of a white hearse was heading east bound, looked at his mirror then looked up and hit her.
