The father of one of the Kanawha County sniper victims is speaking out and apologizing.
Larry Patton, Jeanie Patton's father, tells Eyewitness News he's sorry for remarks he made about Prosecutor Mark Plants. At the vigil for the victims last month, Patton posted signs speaking out against the prosecutor. He was upset about the second degree murder plea the prosecutor's office worked out with Shawn Lester. Lester was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the charge.
Patton says now that he's had time to digest everything that has happened, he realizes after nine years a lot of evidence was lost and witnesses have died. He says he's still upset with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office and the FBI for their handling of the case but is grateful to the Charleston Police Department and Plants' office.
