A Roane County sheriff’s deputy who was wounded in a deadly shootout in Clay County has been released from the hospital.
John Westfall was shot three times after responding to a call that two troopers were down, shot and left for dead in their cruisers. Westfall, Troopers Marshall Bailey and Eric Workman and tow truck driver Frank Massey were shot by Luke Baber at the Wallback park and ride. Bailey and Workman had pulled Baber over. After being shot, Massey was able to get back in his tow truck and call for help.
Bailey died at the scene from his injuries, and Workman died last week after being in a coma at the hospital. The tow truck driver was treated and released.
