DuPont’s Belle plant is part of the company’s national movement to get more veterans to work once they hang up their uniforms.
DuPont is the first major company to sign on to U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin’s “I Hire Veterans” Program. The chemical giant is committing that at least 10 percent of all U.S. hires through the end of next year are veterans.
The Belle plant is planning to hire a couple hundred workers over that time. If that number holds up, at least 20 former members of the military would find employment locally at the company.
DuPont’s Belle plant already has several veterans on staff. Manchin, D-W.Va., said the key to the program’s success will be communication, letting veterans know what companies are looking for and notifying companies of the veterans looking for a job.
