A Lucasville man is charged with murder after deputies say he shot his girlfriend's husband.
Jeff Waller, 24, of Lucasville is charged with the murder of James Thurman, 33, also of Lucasville, according to a news release from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Department.
Scioto County Sheriff Marty Donini said the shooting happened in the 800 block of McNamer Brown Road about 9 p.m. Monday. Deputies say while responding to the scene, they found Waller walking down McNamer Brown Road. The sheriff said the suspect was taken into custody without incident and then led deputies to the shotgun used in that shooting.
Donini says Waller and his girlfriend, Anna Thurman were sitting in the bedroom when Anna's husband James Thurman came in and kicked Waller in the head. Donini says that's when Waller grabbed a shotgun and shot Thurman in the stomach.
Andy Bair lives down the road from the scene of the crime and said, "He was crouched down in the creek here in front of my house. Patrolmen shined their lights as they came up the hollow and found him. He got out of the creek and they cuffed him."
Deputies say Thurman was shot in the abdomen and was flown to a Cabell County hospital where he was pronounced dead about 3 a.m. Tuesday.
In addition to murder, Waller also is charged with tampering with evidence. He is being held without bond and will appear in court Tuesday.
