Ferry Street, including the rough intersection with Thayer Street, in Charleston will be improved during a reconstruction and repaving project during evenings and overnights early next week, city officials said.
As part of the same project, the section of Louden Heights Road approaching the South Side Bridge will also be milled and repaved, according to a news release from City Engineer Chris Knox.
Knox said work will take place, weather permitting, from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., starting Monday night through Thursday morning. The first part of the project will include demolition and reconstruction of the intersection of Thayer and Ferry streets that links drivers between the South Side Bridge and MacCorkle Avenue. That will be followed by milling and repaving of Ferry Street. Because traffic in the construction zone will be restricted to one lane most of the time and stopped at other times, drivers should avoid the area if possible.
Louden Heights Road will be closed completely between the South Side Bridge and Grosscup Road for milling and repaving, starting Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. until 6:30 a.m. the follow mornings. Drivers will be detoured via Bridge Road and Grosscup Road.
