A church and school custodian is in jail, accused of sex crimes against a 7-year-old family member. Charles Hogan, 57, is charged with four counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian, or person in position of trust to a child. According to the criminal complaint, the victim told her mother Hogan had been molesting her while he was babysitting her. "It was very shocking to us. We've never had any allegation connected to him," explains Bible Center Church Executive Pastor Lee Walker. For 15 years, Hogan worked as a custodian at the church's two campuses. One serves as a church, the other is a school for preschoolers through eight graders. Now, Hogan is off the job and in front of a judge facing disturbing sex crimes. "You're not to have any contact with the victim, or any children, directly or indirectly," explained Kanawha County Magistrate Judge Joe L. Shelton during Hogan's arraignment. The details of the alleged crimes are too graphic to lay out, but police say Hogan confessed to touching the girl at his Dolores Drive home in Cross Lanes, and at another home in Nitro. He also told police he sued an electric massager to touch the girl through her pants. "It's one of the most serious crimes. It affects the the families, it affects the communities, it affects the law enforcement officers that are investigating the crimes," explains Nitro Police Chief Brian Oxley. Walker says he got word of the investigation last Friday, and suspended Hogan with pay. On Wednesday, the day of his arrest, he was fired. Walker says Hogan was rarely around children, and the church has strict rules when it comes to employees and children at the church. "Even our teachers, let alone a custodian, no one is ever alone with any of our children at our church or our school or our preschool. So, we're glad that those policies have been in place," says Walker. Right now, police don't suspect there are other victims, but the investigation is continuing. "Our hearts are with them, our prayers go out to them. We care about Charlie too but it's awful for the family and for this victim," says Walker. Shelton set Hogan's bond at $50,00 cash only. He is in the South Central Regional Jail. MORE NEWS FROM EYEWITNESS NEWS
