A Nicholas County Circuit Court jury Tuesday reached a guilty with no mercy verdict against a man accused of murdering his wife in a Nicholas County farm pond.
Jurors reached the decision in the trial of Gary Rollins. Earlier in the day, California pathologist testified that there is not enough evidence to determine that Teresa Rollins was murdered when she drowned in a Nicholas County farm pond in 2009.
Dr. Joseph Cohen. a defense witness, testified that Teresa Rollins’ death was consistent with her being pinned underwater by a falling 1,000-pound tree and explained that her lack of injuries were due to her heavy clothing. Cohen, however, said he could not determine what caused her to drown.
Prosecutors contend the woman was killed for insurance money and because Rollins had a new girlfriend. The girlfriend testified Rollins admitted killing the victim. Earlier, renowned pathologist Cyril Wecht testified Teresa Rollins was forcibly drowned.
