The prosecution rested its case Friday in Nicholas County Circuit Court in the murder trial of a man accused in the slaying of his wife.
Gary Rollins is accused of killing his wife Teresa. The 54-year-old woman was found dead in a farm pond in Nettie in 2009. Rollins is now on trial for her murder in Summersville.
At first, police believed Gary Rollins’ story that his wife had been hit by a falling tree and pinned underwater.
Doctor Cyril Wecht, a renowned Pennsylvania coroner who worked on President John F. Kennedy's and Elvis Presley's death investigations, dug up the woman’s body two and half years later and determined she was forcibly held underwater and not hit by a falling tree.
A defense medical expert is expected to testify next week that she drowned accidentally.
Prosecutors contend the victim was killed for insurance money and because Gary had a new girlfriend.
