One man was hospitalized after a violent attack in Charleston late Thursday night, and police are seeking help in identifying a suspect.
John Phillips, 38, of St. Albans and another man got into an argument on the sidewalk at Capitol Street and Kanawha Boulevard East about 11:20 p.m. Police said the man punched Phillips in the face, knocked him to the ground and then started kicking him. Phillips was found unresponsive at the scene and was taken to a Charleston hospital for treatment. He received a head injury and bruised ribs, but is expected to survive.
Police said the suspect in this attack is a heavyset black male with slightly bushy hair. A video shot by a cell phone shows the suspect and he is wearing red shorts and a white shirt. If you have any information, call the Criminal Investigation Division of Charleston Police Department at 304-348-6480.
