A Raleigh County man was charged with battery on a police officer after he allegedly spat on a Kanawha County sheriff’s deputy and threatened officers.
Donald Charles Canaday, 48, of Crab Orchard was arrested about 1:30 a.m. Sunday after deputies were called to the Comfort Inn on Racer Drive in Cross Lanes for a disturbance, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department.
When deputies arrived, they learned that two suspects, a male and female, had been refused further service because they were intoxicated, and the male suspect had allegedly threatened the bartender, the release said. The release said deputies found Canaday and Christy Lynn Bolen, 33, of Naoma in the hallway,
As a deputy spoke to Canaday, he allegedly spat at the officer, and he was placed in a police cruiser, the release said. The suspect then allegedly kicked windows in the cruiser, banged his head inside the car and had to be restrained. Canaday also allegedly threatened to kill police officers, burn houses and kill their families, the release said. At the booking station, he allegedly swung his fist at a deputy.
Canaday was transported to the South Central Regional Jail. Bolen was arrested and transported to CARES for detoxification, the release said.
