Teresa Stone of Charleston was not wasting any time to get her first glimpse of the outdoor superstore Cabela’s. She marked her place in line at 8 a.m. Wednesday – 27 hours before the store officially opened.
"Everybody talks about it,” Stone said. “They have great products, and it's a new store. I like new stores.”
Nearly 40 eager fans were anxiously waiting Thursday morning for their first step inside the massive store, known for its hunting, fishing and outdoor gear. Planning for the store has been in the works for quite some time. The Southridge Centre location is Cabela's second store in West Virginia; the other location is in Wheeling.
Eager shoppers say it has been a long time coming. Cabela's has plenty to offer, including a gun library, clothes and museum-quality full body animal mounts.
For some, the wait also is about spending time in suspense with the ones they love.
"Would you believe it if I told you my wife has motivated me? She's the sweetest thing since sugar," Ricky Shafer of Kanawha County said.
The new landmark for Charleston also will be an economic boost to the area – nearly 200 jobs are being created.
And alongside of the excitement, there are devoted fans who will risk a night sleeping on concrete for a first look at the outdoor superstore.
"There's a reason, you know,” Logan Casto of Campbells Creek said.
“We love this stuff. It's what we're about.”
