Summer is winding down, and kids in Wayne County are back in class.
It was the first day of school for Isabella Hughes, but Wednesday was different for the second-grader. She has been home-schooled for the past couple of years. Her father, Dave Hughes, said he was nervous and excited.
βIt's just a big step of independence,β Dave Hughes said. βI get choked up watching her with the other kids. It's just great."
Isabella now goes to Kenova Elementary. It is the second year for the modular school; the original had to close after sinkhole problems.
Students across Wayne County are now expected to be in class at 7:30 a.m. It is part of the "Free Grab & Go" breakfast and lunch program.
For Isabella, she is happy to start her journey, learning with other children. She already has a favorite subject β dinosaurs.
