A tentative agreement has been reached between Special Metals Huntington Operation and their union workers. Friday, the company submitted a contract proposal and Saturday more than 400 unionized workers gathered to read through it. Denny Longwell, union representative, said most workers are happy but some are not. "It's mixed," Longwell said. "Some are happy, others wish there was more." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Union members at Special Metals in Huntington have received a proposal from the company, a worker said. The source said union members will meet Saturday at the union hall to review the agreement and will vote on the pact Monday. Health insurance has been the sticking point in the negotiations, and the threat of a strike had been looming as the current contract was extended previously until midnight Friday. Stay tuned to Eyewitness News for further updates. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The threat of strike continues at Special Metals in Huntington. Both sides are still negotiating and the current contract has been extended until Friday at midnight. A union worker, who wished to remain anonymous tells Eyewitness News the main sticking point with a new contract is health insurance. The worker we spoke with says the union wants a $250 cap per month, but he says word around the plant is closer to $700 or $800. "I wish they'd cap at $250 or have a set of rules," he said. Union workers say the company also needs to hire more men and women. They say that would alleviate excessive overtime hours they say they're forced to work. Workers say it's typical to work a 16 hours shift. Dwight Weber, the spokesperson with Special Metals parent company says, "We appreciate the extension and hope to resolve the issues and will continue to bargain in good faith.
