Lincoln County will soon have a new commissioner. Tuesday morning the commission accepted the resignation of former commissioner, Thomas Ramey.
Ramey submitted his letter of resignation on Monday saying he did so, "with a heavy heart and much regret." He had until August 8 to resign from office but did it sooner to give his replacement time to get on the November ballot. Ramey is expected to plead guilty in connection with an ongoing federal investigation into election fraud during the 2010 Lincoln County Democratic primary.
The two remaining commissions announced Tuesday they would name Ramey's replacement on August 1. However, because of recent redistricting, the two remaining commissioners are still trying to determine which district Ramey's replacement must represent. The redistricting happened after Ramey was elected. The commission has asked the prosecutor for guidance on the issue and expect to have a decision soon.
