The famed, and some now might say "infamous," statue of legendary football coach Joe Paterno is gone.
Penn State took down the statue Sunday morning. It was covered by tarps to keep the removal under wraps as much as possible.
An independent report commissioned by the university found that Paterno should have done more then he first heard that Jerry Sandusky, his defensive coordinator, was abusing young boys.
Even before the report came out, Paterno was fired after 61 years at Penn State. He died a couple of months later.
The early morning removal of the late coach's statue attracted a crowd of onlookers with mixed opinions.
In a statement, Paterno's family says removing the statue does not help the victims.
Meanwhile, the NCAA plans to announce the potentially severe sanctions against Penn State and its football program Monday.
