She's known as "Berta" the housekeeper on the hit TV show "Two and a Half Men" But did you know Conchata Ferrell is a native of West Virginia. She came back to Charleston recently and Eyewitness News Anchor Deborah Linz talked with her exclusively about her life and amazing acting career. For nearly ten years Conchata Ferrell, Chattie to her friends, has played Charlie Sheen's and now Ashton Kutcher's hilarious housekeeper. Conchata, who has lots of cousins here, and her husband Arnie came back to Charleston recently with plans to build a summer home in the Loudendale area. As a student Conchata went to WVU and Marshall studying social studies and education but it was a comedy skit at Marshall that changed the course of her life. She says, "And I got on that stage and that first laugh came..and every pore in my body opened up and went oh my God this is it." After college Conchata went to New York starring in the hit Broadway show "Hot L Baltimore". Norman Leer eventually made it into a hit TV show in the 1970's. And, for the next 30 years Conchata made a living as a character actress starring in dozens of TV shows and movies. Remember her in "Mystic Pizza" with Julia Roberts? But in 2003 at the age of 60, she was offered the role of a lifetime. Originally though the creator of "Two and a Half Men" wanted an ethnic middle eastern housekeeper. Conchata says, "This works better trailer park than anything else." So, Conchata convinced creater Chuck Lorre to go country. "I worked it really hard in my West Virginia accent and I go it works better here...it works so much better here." That it does....Berta has legions of fans.... Conchata was just supposed to guest star in a few episodes the first season...But was cast as a regular the second year. "Other than the fact I have had the best times on this show and with these people it also paid for my daughter to have education she wanted." Conchata didn't want to comment much on Charlie Sheen's notorious feud with show creator Chuck Lorre only to say, "Just that it was unfortunate and I love them both dearly." She says she was worried about losing her job, but that Ashton has filled Charlie's shoes nicely and the dynamic on the set is good. "I'm really lucky I make a living doing what i love!"
