Thousands of kids in West Virginia will be getting free meals this coming school year.
West Virginia is part of a new pilot program this fall to offering 90,000 children free breakfast and lunch at school. A total of 283 schools in 35 counties will participate.
Superintendent Jorea Marple says countless children go to school hungry, making it impossible to focus on school work.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture says nearly 14% of West Virginians don't know where they'll get their next meal, and more than 88,000 children live in poverty.
