A community is outraged after an elderly man confined to a wheelchair was robbed at gunpoint in the middle of the night.
It happened early Sunday morning on West Fifth Avenue in Huntington. Ron Erwin and his wife Debbie say they thought they were going to die when two masked gunmen broke into their home at 3am and robbed them of a gun and prescription pills.
News spread quickly along the street where the crime happened. Anna Wilson says her neighborhood has deteriorated over the years, parents rarely allow children to play outside out of sight because of drug dealers and addicts. Wilson said, "People will knock you in the head to get your pills, crush them up, snort them and get high."
Lawrence Calderon said, "I hope they choose my house because they won't get much without getting hurt. I won't call 911, I'll call 357."
Wilson has no trespassing signs on her home and just in case that doesn't work she plans to buy a gun. "The first one through the door uninvited I'll blow them away."
Police say the two suspects are on the loose. They're described as five feet and ten inches tall, dressed in black from head to toe. Mr. Erwin says he was able to determine the men were white behind the ski masks. Anybody with information that can help police catch the suspects should call the Huntington Detective Bureau at 304-696-4420.
