A shocking twist tonight to a story we brought you earlier this week where a man on a mission to find kindness in others was shot.
Now Deputies say that man actually shot himself.
This is a story that got national attention. A nation empathizing with a war veteran shot.
Deputies in Montana say they have learned Ray Dolin shot himself.
39 year old Dolin is from Julian West Virginia.
He was traveling across the country in an effort to find the good in Americans for a memoir he planned to write called "Kindness in America."
While hitchhiking through Montana, Dolin was shot in the shoulder.
Police arrested 52 year old Lloyd Christopher Danielson for the alleged crime.
This incident happened last weekend.
Police believed the incident was an ironic yet random shooting.
Police then gathered more information and learned that Dolin had actually shot himself.
Danielson has been cleared of all charges. Friends of Ray Dolin say they are shocked to hear the new developments in this incident.
As far as a motive behind shooting himself, police are not releasing that information at this time, but they do say Dolin could now be facing charges. Possibly including tampering with evidence and giving false statements to law enforcement.
A press conference will be held Monday in Montana with more information on this incident.
