Graffiti and tagging are major problems for cities throughout the region. In Charleston, officers have arrested a trio of young men suspected of destroying property throughout the Capital City.
Some consider graffiti a minor nuisance and wonder why the police aren't spending their time tackling more important things.
But taggers can destroy thousands of dollars worth of property and affect the quality of life for entire neighborhoods, so the problem is being taken seriously.
After investigating for several days, Charleston police officers arrested two adults and a juvenile, charging them with destruction of property. They allegedly spray painted graffiti on signs, businessess and other structures in several different North Charleston locations.
20-year old Cody Ryder Pfeiffer of Charleston allegedly admitted to police he's been tagging buildings and signs throughout area. He's charged with felony destruction of property, with estimates to fix the paint damage at more than 25-hundred dollars. He's facing one to ten years in prison is convicted. His preliminary hearing is set for June 22nd.
21-year old Joshua Lee Bailey is charged with misdemeanor property destruction. Investigators didn't release specifics in the case of the juvenile who was also arrested.
Eyewitness News isn't immune from the graffiti problem. A billboard at the base of the Patrick Street Bridge promoting our main anchor team was damaged by vandals.
