Fire departments in Kanawha County could soon get more funding if the public supports a proposed excess levy.
County Commissioner Kent Carper is proposing public meetings in the cities and rural parts of the county to discuss an excess levy.
The levy would be put on the ballot in November and if passed would generate money to help fire departments across the county.
It will take a 60 percent majority before an excess levy passes. The commission will discuss this issue in more detail at Thursday's meeting.
