A local funeral home accused of embezzling thousands of dollars will no longer deal with prepaid contracts, at least for now.
Dozens of alleged victims showed up for a hearing Wednesday.
The Attorney General's Office and Elk Funeral Home came to an agreement before the hearing, where the funeral home has agreed not to accept any prepaid contracts until this case is resolved.
The Attorney General's Office is suing the funeral home, saying they took money from dozens of people who wanted to pay for funeral services in advance.
Alleged victims say this is a step in the right direction.
Alleged victim, Dallas Cummings, says," You really do feel betrayed on it, but you just trust that it will be worked out. We all make mistakes, but this is one he got caught on."
So far, there are 19 alleged victims; and the Attorney General's Office believes there are more out there.
If the funeral home doesn't agree to refund consumers their money, then this case will do to trial.
