West Virginia State Treasurer John Perdue has been honored for his work of connecting West Virginians with unclaimed property.
He recently received the lifetime achievement award from the National Association of Unclaimed Property.
Perdue's office has returned $100 million dollars to West Virginians since he was elected in 1996.
The uniform unclaimed property act empowers the state treasurer to preserve and protect the property rights of the owner. The state is custodian of the property until the rightful owner or their heir makes a claim to the state.
