A massive layoff at King's Daughters Medical Center.
At least 89 union employees have been laid off. As for the number of non union employees, the hospital will only say it's in clinical and non clinical areas. Union reps are calling these are massive layoffs.
Tom Dearing from the Marketing, Public Relations department tells Eyewitness News that the entire Cardiology office in Maysville, Kentucky has been shut down as part of today's cuts.
The hospital says they are blaming it on declining patient volumes and shrinking payments from both Medicare and Medicaid.
People affected are questioning the layoffs as they say the hospital is continuing to expand in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Representatives for the hospital would not go on camera, but did release the following statement: "We are truly saddened that circumstances have forced us to take this action. As we move forward, we remain focused on providing patients with excellent quality and value, which are the ultimate measures of our success."
Each person laid off will have access to available benefits and unemployment.
