A Charleston funeral home is being investigated for embezzlement.
Attorney General Darrell McGraw has filed a lawsuit against Elk Funeral Home.
The funeral director is accused of misappropriating funds belonging to at least 16 people who paid in advance for funeral arrangements.
Under state law, the Attorney General's office is to be notified when someone pays in advance.
The Attorney General's office began investigating in February, when a woman contacted them over her mother's contract with the funeral home.
They discovered the funeral director had spent the money. As of right now, nearly $62,000 dollars is missing.
