It's been more than six months now since a tragic accident at a Milton cemetery forever changed little Lydia Peyton's life, but two-year-old Lydia Peyton is making major progress in her recovery.
Mom Brooke Vance says, "Well, she's come a long way in six and a half months."
When a tombstone fell on her, it caused severe internal bleeding and spinal injuries, and they weren't sure if she would ever walk. But the spunky toddler is getting fitted for braces today in Huntington.
Mom says, "To think six and a half months ago that she would not walk, and today she gets her braces, it's a start."
Lydia's working her way through physical therapy to strengthen her legs, and she can move pretty quickly in her customized wheelchair. It's been an emotional year for Lydia and her family, who have made several trips to and from Columbus children's hospital. There have been obstacles, but mom Brooke is confident things will continue to get better.
"I think that's what's gotten her so far. Just her being as spunky as she is, she's determined, and she shows me every day how strong she is."
Besides therapy, Lydia likes to do things most little girls do. "Color, play dough. She plays with silly putty all the time. We do arts and crafts all the time. She likes to make jewelry, bracelets and necklaces."
She also continues to get support from the nearly 6,000 fans on her Facebook page.
"It's great to see people are still caring and showing their support and praying," says her mom.
Hopefully, in the very near future, Lydia will be taking her own steps toward the future. Brooke says, "Pretty confident she'll be able to do it. I have no doubt in my mind. She will walk."
