The winner of a judicial race in West Virginia's recent primary will now serve on that bench.
Governor Earl Ray Tomblin appointed J. Robert Leslie to succeed retiring Putnam County Circuit Judge O.C. Spaulding.
Leslie, who is a laywer from Teays Valley, won the May 8th Democratic pirmary for the seat. Leslie attracted 44% of the vote in a three-candidate race. He faces Republican Joe Reeder in November.
Leslie has practiced law in West Virginia since 1993. He is a graduate of Marshall University and Ohio Northern University College of Law.
Spaulding announced last year that he was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease. The longtime judge stepped down with four years remaining in his eight -year term. The winner in November will complete that term.
