Family, friends, and co-workers of a murdered Charleston woman came together at Kelley's Mens Shop Wednesday to celebrate her life, and start to heal after two years of being left in the dark about her mysterious disappearance.
"She was always laughing. She was just a free spirit, didn't know a stranger. Just always happy, just loving. She was just the most wonderful friend in the world," said Jackie Bevin of her friend, Kathy Goble.
They leaned on each other for strength, and chose not to dwell on the obvious, but to celebrate Kathy's life.
"She was probably one of the most inspiring people I've ever met," said her friend and former co-worker of ten years, Susan Helms.
They prayed, lit candles, and shared memories of a life taken too soon.
"I hoped the outcome would have been different. I'm glad her family can find closure," said Helms.
"It was more about celebrating her life today. Closure, I think closure will come when there's justice done," said Bevin.
Their goal was to concentrate on Kathy and remember her the way she was, not the horrific way she died.
"That makes it even more disheartening to know there was a monster in our community," said Helms.
They say they hope her memory lives on and her spirit never goes away as they begin to heal from two years of agonizing grief.
"Knowing that somebody took her life and he sat there knowing that she was there and slept in his bed safe at night every night and was at peace with that, apparently to still come to work, is disturbing to me," said Bevin.
"She'll be greatly missed. A lot of healing to do," said Helms.
