Police are on the hunt for two men promising driveway repairs, but rip people off instead.
Peggy Barker told Eyewitness News that she got a lot less than what she bargained for last October. She says she put her trust in two men to repair her driveway, but she was left with nothing to show for it.
"You know, $600 is a lot of money for motor oil to be sprayed on your driveway," explained Barker.
Peggy says two men came to her home to fill the cracks in her driveway for $600. She figured that was a good deal, until a few days later when it rained.
"It got on my shoes and it was sticky. And I carried it into the house. And then after the first rain it washed most of it off," she said.
Peggy says just three days after the men worked on the driveway, it was like they never even touched it. The cracks were still there, and the bare concrete spots weren't even filled in.
Police say Peggy isn't the only victim. Another man told police them targeted him in Kanawha County and he handed over $1,100. Detectives say the men sprayed what appears to be used oil on top of the driveway and took off with his money. Peggy says she's afraid the men will continue. "I'm just sick. I mean it is so disheartening to look at my driveway now," she explained.
Now a woman is out $600, and her driveway is in the same condition it was before. She says she's hopeful the alleged scammers get caught before someone else gets ripped off.
Detectives need your help to track the alleged scammers down. Police think they're in a tan, full-sized pick up truck with a compressor or tank in the bed.
If you have any information, call the Kanawha Bureau of Investigation at 304-357-0169.
