Brandon Gray is accused of gunning down Timothy Thompson in an alley on Charleston's West Side last June. Prosecutors contend he he lured Thompson to a meeting and shot him as soon as he approached.
Prosecutors have texts between Gray and the victim and a jailhouse snitch who testified gray admitted killing the 26-year-old victim in a drug-related hit.
Ernest Young said: " It was a setup. He lured him to the alley and shot him. It was for a drug debt. " < > "Explain what you mean by a drug debt. What did he say about that? " <> "Money was owed to someone else so he killed him. "
Accused murderer Ernest Young was his cellmate. This is a re-trial. A juror got ill in February forcing a mistrial in the state's first attempt to convict Gray. Gray's lawyer says Young is trying to get a deal from prosecutors in his unrelated murder charge.
