A Pocahontas County sheriff's deputy has been indicted on 12 charges of sex crimes against four girls and one woman who were in police custody.
State Police Sgt. Michael Baylous said a grand jury returned the indictment against Deputy Bradley C. Totten of Hillsboro on Tuesday after a lengthy investigation that involved the FBI.
The indictment says the crimes, including oral sex and intercourse, date to 1999. The most recent occurred in April 2010.
State Police say the investigation is continuing and more charges could be filed. They urge other potential victims to contact authorities.
Baylous says Totten was a deputy for more than 10 years.
A woman who answered the phone at the sheriff's department Wednesday said he no longer works there.
Totten didn't immediately return a telephone message.
