Darrell Danberry stood in shock Friday afternoon, while talking about his young, boy Dale and struggles with the thought of never seeing his son's face again.

"I always worried and figured my kids would be burying me, but not the other way around. It aint supposed to work like that," said Danberry.

Wednesday night was nothing less than a nightmare for Darrell and his family. Their son Dale was trying to cross Route 34 in front of his home on Red House Hill to get to a friend's house.

Dale darted across the busy street right after a bus passed, but that bus blocked his view on an SUV coming the other way, the driver of that SUV never saw Dale and hit him. He was taken to the hospital, but it was too late. Dale died at just 8-years old.

Now a family is left with just memories of Dale. They say he had an infectious smile and was good at art and loved to read.

"Mischief found him and he found mischief, either way they made a pretty good couple," said Danberry.

Darrell says he doesn't have bad feelings toward the woman who accidentally hit his child. He hopes they can both carry on, somehow.

It's not a long road ahead for the Danberry family. They're left hanging onto the memory of a boy who brought light and love to so many.

"Someone upstairs has their hands full right now because I guarantee he can run them ragged. I wish he was here," said Danberry.

Dale's family donated his heart valves. Darrell says he hopes it saves someone's life.

The Danberry family also wanted to thank everyone for their love and support, especially Kevin and Cindy Medford.
