A former alcohol beverage commissioner Robert Adkins was attacked more than a week ago, but police are just now getting information about the fight that may have killed him. Hoping the person who is responsible will come forward to give a family some sort of justice.
Eyewitness News learned the fight happened St. Patrick's Day night when Adkins was attacked by a man in a back alleyway near 7th Avenue in South Charleston.
Sources say he was at Mojo's Sportsbar earlier that night, but Mojo's bar owner says Adkins wasn't there that night.
Police say the fight happened March 17, but Adkins didn't go to the hospital until March 21, and the fight wasn't reported to police until yesterday afternoon.
Adkins was taken off life support early Wednesday morning. He died from serious head injuries sustained from the fight. Police say someone has to know something. "After we've had the opportunity to talk with everyone who has something to say or who has witnessed something, and we feel comfortable we'll work with the Kanawha County Prosecutor's Office and determine the appropriate charge," said Detective Andrew Gordon from the South Charleston Police Department.
Adkins' family didn't wish to speak with us on camera, but they said they're hopeful someone comes forward with information on who Adkins was with or who might have attacked him.
If you have any information, call South Charleston Police.
