You still have a chance to pick up a free smoke detector from the Charleston Fire Department. We are calling this effort, "Never Again!" In light of this past weekend's fatal fire that killed nine people, including seven children, we are asking for your help to assist local fire departments in their mission to save lives by putting working smoke detectors into as many homes as possible. All this week, you can drop off monetary donations in person, or mail them to the Charleston Fire Department. Here is the address: Charleston Fire Department Smoke Detector Fund 808 Virginia Street West Charleston, WV 25302 Firefighters will use this money to buy smoke detectors in bulk. Charleston firefighters will hand out the devices at Eyewitness News studios at 1301 Piedmont Road in Charleston again on Saturday March 31, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Proper installation is key to this effort, so every person who takes a detector will be required to provide the fire department contact information so they can follow up to make sure each was properly installed, or they will install it for them. This is your chance to take action and say, "Never Again!" We want to thank the following area businesses who have stepped up and donated to help make this a safer place to live: Charleston Department Store Mark Hunt and Associates Joe Holland Chevrolet State Credit Union Charleston Suzuki Engines, Incorporated Summit Community Bank Charleston Town Center Mall BBL Carlton Mardis Gras Casino & Resort NGK Sparkplugs Coca-Cola Consolidated Jackson Kelly, PLLC Ron Walters, Structured Financial Associates Capitol View Properties, LLC Smith Company Motor Cars Rusty Webb, Charleston Attorney Contractors Association of WV Clayman & Associates, PLLC Lumos Networks Brickstreet Insurance W.Va.-American Water Company W.Va.
