Joel Baker is an attorney in Madison for the law firm Cook & Cook. Baker’s thought of boxing competitively since college.

“I've been a competitor my whole life,” said Attorney Joel Baker.

Saturday night he will enter the ring in his first amateur competition at the “King of the Coalfields” event at the Logan Field house.

“I plan to walk out with a win, no question,” said Baker.

While Baker says he stays on the right side of the law, Saturday he will be known as the “Outlawyer.” He has his fiancé to thank for the nickname.

“She said ‘well what's your name gonna be?’ and I said ‘I dunno.’ and she was like, ‘well I guess you're going to be the "Outlawyer!"’ and she thought it was so funny and I said no that's perfect!” said Baker.

Joel trains at the Hill Fitness and Training Center in Madison. He’s been inspired by some very talented boxers. Some who have even won national titles over the years. Many of those men will also enter the ring Saturday night.

“First of all people shouldn't come to watch me fight. People should come out to see this event to see what really true talent we have,” said Baker.

I decided to ask the pros for their prediction on the “Outlawyers” match.

“Do you think Joel's going to win tomorrow?”

“I think so. Joel's been putting in work, he's lost a lot of weight the last couple of months one of the hardest workers in the gym,” said Professional Boxer Jon Hill.

“Yea, no doubt,” said Amateur Boxer Joe Collins.

“As long as Joel sticks with the game plan I have no doubts. For some dude who came in the gym and looked the way he looked he's really came and worked it off and put in the time, put in the effort and I know everyone in this gym supports him. He'll be fine,” said Professional Boxer and Saturday’s Main Event Boxer ‘King’ Zack Kuhn.

Win or lose, Baker says he won’t quit his day job.

If you want to attend the boxing event, it starts Saturday night at 7:30 at the Logan Field House. It will cost you $15 for general admission and you will see just under 20 fights.
