Becky Porter says, "We knelt down in my bathroom floor and just started praying and singing "Jesus Loves Me". Porter was home with six of her seven young kids along Route 152 in Dunlow Friday when the tornado hit. She says, "It was horrifying."
They hunched together in the bathroom while the storm ravaged their home.
Just a few hundreds yards up the hill, the roof of her dad's home got ripped off, and some out buildings got damaged. Roy Beckett says, "I've never seen nothing like this in my life. It's bad. When I woke up the next morning and looked out the back door up the hill, it just tore me all to pieces."
Family members, friends and neighbors have all helped each other start patching and picking up, and luckily, more help is here.
National Guard members were in several areas of Wayne County. Sgt. 1st Class Russ Young says, "They've all helped in by letting us know who need the most help."
They did things like deliver meals to folks in need. Young says, "That's what we're here for. Whoever needs help, we're ready to jump in and help out."
Cabwaylingo Presbyterian Church has been cooking up hot meals and collecting donated items for victims. Loretta Cowan's home got damaged Friday, and she's still without power. She came down with her family to get a hot meal and some bottled water from the church. "This is amazing. It's a wonderful thing that the church is stepping out and helping everybody on the mountain."
They're showing those affected they'll lead them through this difficult time. Porter says, "Materialistic things don't matter. You can rebuild, but you can't bring back a life once you've lost it, and we're just completely blessed not to have lost anybody in this tragedy."
