Lincoln County commissioners named an interim sheriff Friday afternoon.
Commissioners unanimously voted on David Vickers to eventually fill Sheriff Jerry Bowman's position once he resigns.
Eyewitness News has learned that Vickers is a former Lincoln County schools maintenance supervisor, a minister and a Democrat.
Vickers was supposed to be sworn in at a planned ceremony on Monday, but that was called off because Bowman has yet to resign.
Bowman has until March 7 to resign. He agreed to plead guilty to conspiring to hijack the May 2010 primary with fraudulent absentee ballots.
