Kanawha County deputies arrest a woman in connection with a fatal hit and run in Elkview.
Lynsey Taylor, 22, of Elkview is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with death for the fatal hit and run of Dennis Glen James, 47, of Elkview.
Deputies say James and Tina Smith were trying to cross Elk River Road near their home on the night of January 27th when James was hit.
Smith told deputies the car was a small, dark colored passenger car and she heard the driver accelerate after striking James. Deputies said in the criminal complaint that James' more serious injuries were trauma to his head.
Parts of the car broke away after James was hit. The pieces indicated that the car was a 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. Deputies obtained a list of all Cobalts registered in the Clendenin area of Kanawha County. On that list was a 2008 Cobalt registered to Anna Taylor of Clendenin. She told deputies her daughter, Lynsey Taylor, was in possession of the car at her boyfriend's house on Little Sandy Road.
Lynsey Taylor agreed to meet with deputies, along with her boyfriend, Grant Givens, and her mother. Deputies observed damage to the Cobalt and both Taylor and Grant told them that she had struck a deer on January 28th. Deputies noticed that new headlights had been installed. Deputies said the damage to the car was consistent with the damage to James' head and the car was seized.
Taylor told police she picked up Givens from work on the 27th and they went to the bank but stayed home the rest of the night. Deputies say surveillance video and receipts obtained show that Taylor was lying about her whereabouts and activity that night. Deputies say just seven minutes before James was hit, Taylor was caught on surveillance video at the McDonald's at the Crossings Mall, and Givens was her passenger.
Taylor is being held on a $200,000 bond. Deputies say more arrests are pending.
