Thursday marks the one year anniversary of the tragic death of a Deputy US Marshal killed in the line of duty.
24-year old Derek Hotsinpiller from Bridgeport, West Virginia was shot and killed while serving a warrant on Charles Smith in Elkins. Smith was also killed, and two other US Marshals were hurt.
At Derek's funeral, his family described him as loyal and a true warrior. Community support poured out for Hotsinpiller and his family since his death.
The Clarksburg Federal Center has been renamed the Derek W. Hotsinpiller Federal Building. A scholarship fund was also named in honor of Hotsinpiller and his father.
