Nine home fire deaths have been reported in the past week in West Virginia. A Charleston man is still struggling with injuries from his decision to try and battle a January 6, 2012 apartment blaze. The contents of his apartment were destroyed in that fire. The fire that destroyed Dave Paleg's apartment in early January may seem like almost yesterday to him because he lost three weeks sedated on life support in a Huntington burn center . The sixty-year-old burn victim is still trying to recover from what the blaze did to his lungs and body after his release from the hospital this week. He said he stayed inside too long trying to fight the blaze, finally went outside and called 911 and then passed out. Part of his recovery is going on not far from the desk where he worked as night auditor at the Cross Lanes Sleep Inn and suites. His employer is providing him with a handicapped access room until he's well enough to get another apartment. Paleg had no renter's or medical insurance. Firemen suspect an electrical problem caused the fire that left his home a gutted shell and almost killed him. Friends have set up at an account to help him. If you would like to assist this fire victim, it's the Dave Paleg Fire Relief Fund, City National Bank, 308 Goff Mountain Road, Cross Lanes, WV 25313. The Golden Corral Restaurant has bee providing him meals and Walgreen's provided many small items that were lost in the blaze. The Red Cross is also expected to provide some assistance. Paleg said he had not been to the doctor in 36 years and doctors at Cabell Huntington Hospital discovered he had other medical issues compounded by his fire injuries. MORE NEWS FROM EYEWITNESS NEWS
